Rugged Descent

Rugged D was Bill Glazier on guitars and vocals and Pete Glover on bass with various drummers.Formed in 1999 in Oakland, CA - the gigged throughout Oakland and SF, eventually throwing in the towel on the first day of 2002 after yet another drummer collapse.
Practicing at 43rd St. Studio late at night with a pork soda in one hand were some of the best musical memories of my life. I really liked the songs and still listen to them often. I wish we had recorded them all. Thanks to Bill for making it all happen. Click here for some show flyers.

"Wake Up" was the first Rugged D song written by a Bill alone in his tiny, televisionless studio apartment in downtown SF. This version is from the 1999 Rugged D demo tape, recorded by Randy Stout in SF on 2" reel-to-reel. "Today" is from the same session. The great Paul Scavuzzo is on the drums. 2.2mb & 5.5mb mp3s

"Viscious Circle" was a Rugged D classic from the beginning. Some stoney practice jams of this song could reach the 15 minute mark. This version is from the ill-fated 2001 Backbone Studio sessions. This is a "Ruff Mix", but we never got a final mix because of a fall-out between the band and producer Ivan Backbone. I really wish I had a better mix from that recording. Drunken "Master" John Brady Larenzen was the drummer for this era. 4.7mb mp3

Bill lays down a guitar solo at Backbone Studio in Oakland. Brady in the background passed-out about 30 minutes after this photo was taken.

"The Same" and "Bones" were later Rugged D tracks that demonstrate the heavier direction Bill was writing at the time. These recordings are from a 43rd St. practice session in late 2001. About 12 songs were recorded onto miniDV (then transferred to CD) to help bone-up for a CD recording scheduled for early 2002. At a New Year's Eve gig not long after this recording, drummer Brady passed-out from drinking in the middle of the set. Rugged D called up veteran drummer Scavuzzo for a final gig with ZipNada in SF in January before giving up. While not featured on any recordings, some older, English guy named Sean played drums with Rugged for a while in 2000. 4mb & 5.6mb mp3s

Where are they now? Bill Glazier moved to Brazil, fell in love, and currently lives in San Diego with his wife, Lais, his son, Rugged Andy, and his daughter, Moonbeam. Check out what he's up to at billsbikes.net. You're on Pete Glover's website right now: still in Oakland, but not playing music. Roger Eichorn currently is a novelist and short story writer living in New Hampshire. Paul Scavuzzo in the drummer in SF's greatest metal band, Bottles & Skulls. No word from Sean or Brady, but we hope they're doing great.

If you want a Rugged Descent CD of your own, featuring the 1999 Demo, the Backbone Ruff Mix, and about 15 practice session tracks, send an email to rugged@peteglover.com and we'll work it out.
